New Public Spaces Ideas “Glossary Workshop” // Batuhan Akkaya

In this workshop we will try to enhance our glossary of ideas that shape new public spaces. As Idea makers we will try to seek the new concepts and trends while we discuss about the future of public spaces.

The workshop will have three sections, “framing, seeking, evaluating”

Framing: What we talk about when we are discussing about new public space idea ? Actually new public spaces are generally consist of everyday public spaces so why do we call them new?

Seeking: What are transformative new concepts for new public spaces? Idea makers will try to create a concept pool from the outcomes of the dialogues.

Evaluating: Idea makers will discuss the boondoggles; do new concepts and trends are capable to overcome the challenges and risks.

I am Batuhan Akkaya living in Kadıköy – İstanbul and working as an urbanist. I have a six years of experience working in various geographies for Turkey’s important public, private and civil sector organizations like Kentsel Strategy, Urban Vision Platform, Kadıköy Municipality, Kartal Municipality, ÇEKÜL Foundation, Kadıköy Academy, TAK Kartal, TAK Kadıköy, TKB (Union Of Historical Towns of Turkey). I have a Master of Science degree (MS) focused in Urban Design from Istanbul Technical University and a bachelor degree from Yıldız Technical University Faculty of Architecture Department of Urban and Regional Planning. I conduct projects in the field of urban strategic planning and design, urban vision development, cultural landscape planning, urban design, urban design guidelines, refunctioning and re-use of common and public spaces and social impact assessment for urban projects.
